Kilmainhan Breeding Program 2007
Due to the very poor season Kilmainhan experienced we did not undertake an AI program in 2006, instead used the following bulls:
- Kilmainhan Yoruba MIG Y21 (AI) – A massive, thick, dark bull combining great growth with good structure and sound carcase characteristics. His Breedplan figures are in the top 5% of the herd and he is a trait leader for 400 and 600 days with an outstanding milk figure as well. His EMA was measured at 108 sq cms last year. $ indexes 46/36. Out of one the top supermarket cows in the breed by Willalooka AM Q44 who is a top carcase bull. Yoruba has a sound temperament and was halter broken as a yearling bull. We have used him over heifers and cows during the past two years and are pleased with the results. Murray Grey 75%. GENESTAR test 3*** for tenderness.
- Kilmainhan Yulara MIG Y12 (AI) - A beautifully structured, soft bull with good growth out of a Kilmainhan Timolin heifer and AM Q44 a top carcase bull. He has lovely temperament, outstanding Breedplan data. $ indexes 46/2. A moderate birth weight bull with growth in the top 10% a trait leader in 200 day growth with a good IMF%. GENESTAR test 5*****, 2** for marbling and 3*** or tenderness. Murray Grey 75%. Sold after the 2006 Field Day.
- Kilmainhan Zion MIG Z8 (AI) An outstanding young bull with great potential and weight for age out of a cow with a history of producing superior bulls. The top of last years drop with loads of muscle. Murray Grey 100%. Low birthweight and growth in the top 10% of the breed and a good EMA figure giving a good retail beef yield.
In 2007 Kilmainhan returned to its AI program selecting bulls to meet our client and Kilmainhan needs. Sires included:
- Willalooka Uncle Ben
- Lindsay Starbright
- Banksia Ridge Yogi Bear.
We continued to use our own bulls Kilmainhan Yoruba MIG Y21(AI) as a herd bull primarily for the commercial herd, Kilmainhan Zion MIG Z8 and Willalooka “Zac” AM Z962 as cover bulls for the AI program and stud heifers and cows.
