About Us
Established in 1976 Kilmainhan Murray Grey Cattle stud is located on the high plain at Mt Jagged in the Fleurieu Peninsula. Our herd has a strong commercial focus initially emphasizing growth for age and now concentrating upon carcass quality. We raise our stud and commercial animals under the same conditions supplying steers to feedlots and females for seed stock and a range of private sales. A limited number of stud bulls are for sale each year.
We breed versatile cattle able to meet both export and domestic market requirements.
Our pastures are managed using rotational grazing to enable
our cattle to realize their full genetic potential. We actively
participate in programs which build environmental sustainability in
a high rainfall area with a variety of soil types while lifting our
stocking rates from 17 DSE to 25 DSE during better
years.
Over the seven years we have recorded our herds performance on
Breedplan our calves have achieved a:
- 9% increase in 200 day growth
- 23% increase in 400 day weight
- 32% increase in 600 day weight
- 100% increase in EMA
- 10% increase in carcase weight.
In all these areas our herd trends above the Murray Grey herd while
maintaining a birth weight under the average for that of the Murray
Grey herd. (Information derived from the
2006 Summer Murray Grey Group Breedplan.)
